About The Artist
Tamelyn Feinstein is a Nashville-based artist and photographer with a background in mixed media and graphic design. Her participation in the 365 Days Project in 2006 inspired her to express herself through self-portraiture and to experiment with compositions involving digital layering of multiple photographs. Her work has been featured in the book Capture Music City, as the cover art for Help My Unbelief, as part of the Getty Images catalog, and in various magazines and journals. Recent exhibitions include Picture The Cure, Tomato Art Festival Show, and a solo show at the Gordon JCC Gallery.

Artist Statement
A photograph can capture a moment in time and fix it in the viewer's eye; I want my photographs to also capture a mood, a memory; the nuances that resonate within our common life experiences.

I feel that every experience, every moment, is multi-layered, and my recent photographic work is an exploration of layers: layers of both images and meaning. When I combine my photographs of natural objects with additional photographs of textures, colors, and lights, I hope to evoke feelings beyond that of the subject matter ... moods that may be dreamy or dramatic, sad or sublime ... meanings that lie deeper than the surface of the image itself.

My self-portraiture began with my involvement in the 365 Project and evolved into an exploration of highly staged, cinematic self-portraiture influenced by the work of Cindy Sherman. Although they are created in a more conventional style than my layered images, these self-portraits also deal with layers of meaning and nuance, using staged scenarios and symbolism.
